I did not make my way directly back to Quel'Thalas. Many journeys I had taken in between that time had led me to the slaughter of human blood, each making me more thirsty for more. I had amassed thirty-two kills by the time I reached the innards of the courtyard, two kills even within the castle itself.
I had no plan, and no direction, only the lust for blood, and by the gods it was strong within me. I rounded the corner in the clear night to a tavern, which housed allies, friends even that I could trust with the knowledge of what I’ve done. Perhaps, as I look back, it was in the vain hope that they could aid me in my mission. I entered the bar to notice many eyes peering at me with a look I have never encountered. My mind reasoned that perhaps they had been worn and embittered by the battles and the gore. Regardless, I had little time to worry about their intrusive troubles.
I took my seat at the most decadent table at the house, the wood creaking as I sat down. It was in the corner, nice and dark, which also served as a strategy point. The table could easily break away, adding the element of surprise to any who attacked me. I grew more paranoid with every kill, not knowing if any of the High Elves had figured it out yet.
The letter I sent to my fellow named simply "V" had obviously got through, since I saw him enter the tavern, already slightly intoxicated as he stumbled over the wood steps. His narrowed eyes noticed me and slowly made his way across the tavern, bumbling over chairs and knocking ale onto a human soldier. This brought a quick smile to my face. He took his seat besides my own.
"How are you, old friend," He said, his speech slightly slurred, "it has been quite a while my dear Daesalliss. How have your journeys taken you, eh? Please, tell me."
I could tell something was not right here. I heard the faint movement of wood below the table. Also, his eyes were not nearly as bloodshot as he was leading me to believe; his intoxication was perhaps feigned, but why? I narrowed my eyes in search for a clue.
"I hear you have had many battles my friend, all victorious as well."
I could do nothing but stare at him. Everything around me turned to dark as I stared at him. There was something wrong here, no doubt about it. He either didn't notice my scrutiny or chose to overlook it.
"You seem to be the only one left from all your missions, Daesalliss. Why is this?" Yet again I could hear the faint wood sound.
